A surety bond issued by a bank or insurance company guaranteeing satisfactory completion of a project by a contractor. If the contractor fails to complete the project according to specifications, the bond compensates the project owner for losses up to the bond amount. Performance bonds are standard in construction and public procurement, protecting owners from contractor default and typically required alongside bid bonds and payment bonds.
