English Definition
Sectors that require a disproportionately high fixed-capital investment to enter and sustain operations while variable costs remain comparatively low — power generation and grids, telecommunications infrastructure, heavy industry, data centres and transport. Their common feature is a high barrier to entry and a long payback horizon, which makes them the natural terrain of project finance. What links such projects is not their sector but their nature: high capital intensity, technical complexity and demanding financing structures. These structures can carry high leverage to the extent that they generate predictable, contracted cash flow.
