English Definition
A policy the insurer issues without adding special exclusions, warranties or adverse notations that would narrow the standard cover; in marine insurance an unclaused policy confirming the goods were shipped sound is clean in this sense. In project finance, lenders require that the construction all-risk and operating-period policies be clean — free of coverage-narrowing exclusions — and that they be named as loss payee. A single carved-out exclusion can cloud the flow of insurance proceeds into debt service, which is why the wording is scrutinised line by line.
