cooperative equilibrium

English Definition
In game theory, the outcome in which parties who coordinate through a binding agreement produce higher joint payoff than any of them would gain by defecting alone; it differs from competitive equilibrium in that defection is deterred by sanction. In project finance this is the core logic of joint-venture and consortium structures: parties cooperate stably only when contractual penalties make defection costly. Lenders choosing collective restructuring over individual enforcement in distress likewise depends on sustaining this equilibrium; standstill agreements are built precisely to suppress that defection incentive.

Oyun teorisinde, tarafların bağlayıcı bir anlaşmayla koordine olduğunda, her birinin tek başına sapmaktan elde edeceğinden daha yüksek ortak fayda ürettiği sonuç durumudur; rekabetçi dengeden farkı, sapmanın yaptırımla caydırılmasıdır.
