English Definition
The receiving endpoint in a data-flow chain at which data is delivered and consumed; the counterpart to the data source, it denotes the final destination of produced data. Telecom and systems-design in origin, the term describes in a financial context the last layer of the reporting architecture — the point where data is gathered for a decision. What is of interest in project finance is that the lenders' monitoring system is the ultimate data sink; unless operating data keeps its integrity at this final point where covenant compliance is tested, reporting discipline is merely formal.
