English Definition
The party that initiates a payment, that is, the one giving the payment instruction to its bank, appearing as the originator in payment messaging. Carrying its identity accurately and completely is mandatory for anti-money-laundering and sanctions screening, and missing information causes a payment to be held somewhere in the correspondent chain. In cross-border project payments, preserving the ordering customer's name, address and account details throughout the message is a precondition for funds reaching the beneficiary without delay, since intermediary banks treat these fields as the primary input to their compliance checks.
