English Definition
The core lines of business on which a company's revenue and economic substance principally rest, appearing in the annual report and the notes to the financial statements as a mandatory disclosure describing what the company does. Though the description of principal activities looks formal, it carries binding consequences: keeping the objects clause of a single-purpose project company narrow — limited-purpose or ring-fencing — contractually prevents it from entering other debt-incurring business and preserves the lender's control over cash flow. This narrowing is one of the cornerstones of the bankruptcy-remoteness structure in project financing.
