A physical point of sale at which goods or services are offered directly to the end consumer — a store, branch, or chain unit — and the core revenue-generating asset of a retail operation. In capital-structure terms these locations are frequently the subject of sale-leaseback transactions; when the real estate is transferred to an investor and leased back on a long-term contract, it lightens the operator's balance sheet, yet the fixed rent obligation behaves effectively like financial leverage and narrows operating flexibility.
