English Definition
The bundle of entitlements an employee earns upon the end of the service relationship — pension, severance, and lump-sum payments — the employee-side counterpart of the promise the plan sets out. As these entitlements accrue they build an accumulating obligation for the employer, provided for in accounting at present value; on labor-intensive projects, and especially in jurisdictions where statutory severance is mandatory and high, this accrued burden can lift the end-of-operation or wind-down cost markedly above what was planned.
