English Definition
A sale in which the buyer makes no payment at the point of sale, the amount instead being charged to its open account and settled at a set term; it is the ledger counterpart of a credit sale and creates a trade receivable. In project finance the volume and collection performance of sales on account signal the health of the working-capital cycle; an aging analysis of receivables is the lender's primary tool for reading a borrower's cash-conversion ability, and a build-up of overdue balances is often the first sign of deterioration in revenue quality.
