A maritime contract under which the shipowner leases a vessel to a charterer for a specified period, with the owner providing the crew and maintaining the vessel while the charterer directs its commercial operations. Time charters generate predictable revenue streams and are frequently used as the basis for ship financing. The charter hire rate and duration are key inputs in the financial modelling of shipping projects.
