Alıcının, malın bedelini teslim anında, malı teslim alırken ödediği; taşıyıcının çoğu zaman hem teslimi yapan hem de bedeli tahsil eden aracı rolünü üstlendiği ödeme şeklidir. Peşin ödemenin tam tersi bir risk dağılımı taşır; satıcı malı teslim edene kadar bedeli görmediği için üretim ve sevk riskini üstlenir, alıcı ise mal fiilen eline geçmeden ödeme yapmaz. Görece küçük ve standart mal tedarikinde işlese de, yüksek değerli ve siparişe özel proje ekipmanında COD nadiren tercih edilir; zira üreticinin uzun teslim süreli üretim maliyetini finanse etmesini gerektirir ve reddedilen bir teslimatın geri taşıma maliyeti caydırıcıdır.
English Definition
A payment method under which the buyer pays for the goods at the moment of delivery, as they are handed over, with the carrier frequently acting as the intermediary that both delivers and collects the price. It carries the opposite risk allocation to advance payment: the seller, not seeing the money until delivery, bears the production and shipment risk, while the buyer pays nothing before the goods are actually in hand. Workable for relatively small, standard supplies, COD is rarely chosen for high-value, made-to-order project equipment, because it would require the manufacturer to finance a long-lead production cost and the return-freight cost of a refused delivery is prohibitive.
