English Definition
The cash outflow reported in the investing section of the cash-flow statement, arising from the acquisition of fixed assets, capital expenditure and purchases of financial assets. This line exposes a project's capital intensity and the weight of its construction phase more nakedly than any other, since in the early years the outflow dwarfs cash from operations by a wide margin. Lenders cross-check it against the agreed drawdown schedule, because an investing outflow that departs from the plan signals either cost overrun or a change in scope.
