In commercial correspondence, telex, and booking traffic, cfmd is the compressed form of "confirmed," signalling that an order, freight booking, or documentary-credit term has been firmly accepted. The shorthand's persistence tracks the weight the word carries in letter-of-credit practice, where a confirmed credit adds a second, independent payment undertaking from the confirming bank alongside the issuer. For an exporter that transfer effectively moves country and bank risk onto the confirming institution, and in a project supply chain the recorded confirmation status often fixes the precise moment a payment trigger becomes operative.
