İhracatçının malı sevk etmeden önce bedelin tamamının ya da bir kısmının alıcı tarafından peşin ödendiği ödeme şeklidir; ödeme riski tümüyle alıcıya yüklendiği için satıcı açısından en güvenli, alıcı açısından en dezavantajlı yöntemdir. Proje tedarikinde uzun teslim süreli, siparişe özel üretilen ekipmanda üretici çoğu zaman peşin ödeme ya da avans talep eder; bu durum alıcının işletme sermayesini erkenden bağlar ve avansın korunması için genellikle bir avans teminat mektubu (advance payment guarantee) şart koşulur. Bu teminat, üreticinin iflası ya da teslim edememesi hâlinde avansın geri alınmasını sağlar.
English Definition
A payment arrangement in which the buyer pays all or part of the price before the goods are shipped; because the payment risk falls entirely on the buyer, it is the safest method for the seller and the least advantageous for the buyer. In project procurement, manufacturers of long-lead, made-to-order equipment often demand advance payment, which ties up the buyer's working capital early and is typically protected by an advance payment guarantee. That instrument lets the buyer recover the advance if the manufacturer becomes insolvent or fails to deliver, which is why lenders scrutinise its wording and issuing bank.
