English Definition
A form of telephone call in which the charge is billed not to the caller but, with the called party's acceptance, to the recipient's account; in United States usage the "collect call" is the standard means of transferring a call's cost to the other side. The functional essence of the concept is that the cost of a transaction is borne, by consent, by the counterparty rather than the initiator. That cost-shifting logic rests on the same principle at work when commercial contracts negotiate which party bears bank fees, collection charges and duties.
