English Definition
The period over which an asset can generate income economically and remain profitable to operate; it is distinct from, and usually shorter than, its physical life. In project financing the loan tenor is set to fall within the asset's commercial life; lenders typically require a meaningful tail at maturity — a residual period that keeps producing revenue after the debt is repaid — because that tail provides a buffer for restructuring should revenue projections disappoint and preserves the residual value of the security.
