English Definition
A specimen of goods sent in limited quantity and rendered without sale value, for the purpose of demonstrating their quality, and often exempt under the customs regime. Although project financing is not directly concerned with it, the commercial sample figures within the acceptance process in equipment supply; the technical specification the buyer approves on the sample becomes the reference against which the conformity of serial delivery is measured, and a divergence between sample and delivery can trigger performance-warranty and liquidated-damages provisions.
