English Definition
Goods or services whose value rises when used together, where demand for one pulls demand for the other — the exact opposite of substitutes. The relationship can underpin pricing strategy: pricing one complement near or below cost and harvesting margin from the other — the razor-and-blades logic — rests precisely on this link. In infrastructure economics a similar structure appears where dependent service revenues cluster around an anchor asset run at thin margin while value is captured in the complementary streams attached to it. Understanding a project's true return profile often requires looking not at the anchor asset but at that complementary revenue layer.
