A document that formally verifies a person's employment at an institution, their position and often their income level, serving in credit assessment to confirm a borrower's repayment capacity. In a corporate and project-finance context, such confirmations may function less as a measure of individual creditworthiness than as due-diligence documents verifying the standing of key managers or guarantors. The point the practitioner should not neglect is that these documents are used in know-your-customer and anti-money-laundering review to confirm a counterparty's genuine operating basis, and the information they provide should be cross-checked against independent sources.
