English Definition
Goods delivered to a consignee for sale under a consignment arrangement but still owned by the consignor, whose treatment for balance-sheet and collateral purposes differs from ordinary trading stock. Lenders will not compute current-asset security without first establishing how much of the goods in a borrower's warehouse are held on consignment, because such goods, not being owned by the borrower, cannot enter the collateral base. Failure to keep this distinction clear in inventory records causes a collateral shortfall to surface at closing and the borrowing base to contract abruptly in working-capital financing.
