Bir ekonomide toplam tüketim harcamasının, elde edilebilir gelir düzeyiyle olan ilişkisini gösteren makroekonomik fonksiyondur; marjinal tüketim eğilimi bu ilişkinin eğimini verir. Proje finansmanına doğrudan bir araç sağlamasa da, talep-riskli projelerin uzun vadeli gelir projeksiyonlarının altında yatan örtük varsayımdır; zira nihai tüketiciye dayanan bir projenin talep eğrisi, esasen bölgesel gelir artışı ile tüketim eğiliminin bileşimidir. Uygulamada belirleyici gözlem, marjinal tüketim eğiliminin gelir düzeyine ve ekonomik belirsizliğe göre değişmesidir; belirsizlik dönemlerinde eğilim düşerek, sabit büyüme varsayımına dayanan projeksiyonları yukarı yönlü yanlı hâle getirir.
English Definition
The macroeconomic function expressing the relationship between an economy's aggregate consumption spending and its level of disposable income; the marginal propensity to consume gives the slope of that relationship. Though it supplies no direct instrument to project finance, it is the implicit assumption beneath the long-term revenue projections of demand-risk projects, since the demand curve of a project resting on end users is essentially a combination of regional income growth and the propensity to consume. The decisive observation in practice is that the marginal propensity varies with income level and economic uncertainty; in uncertain periods the propensity falls, biasing upward any projection built on a fixed growth assumption.
