English Definition
The provision of a recurring obligation — maintenance, operating support, technical supervision, or an administrative function — by a supplier under defined terms and duration. In project financing the escalation formula and termination clauses of an operating-phase service contract can quietly erode the debt service coverage ratio over time, since an index-linked maintenance fee compresses margin whenever the revenue side runs on a fixed tariff. Lenders therefore press to align the service contract's indexation with that of the offtake, closing a mismatch that would otherwise widen year by year.
