English Definition
The cost of producing or supplying a unit of energy (typically kWh or MWh), incorporating fuel, operation and maintenance, capital depreciation, and financing burden. The levelized cost of energy (LCOE) is the lifetime, discounted form of this concept and the standard measure for comparison across technologies. LCOE's misleading aspect is that it ignores the time profile of generation and its grid value; the low LCOE of an intermittent source overstates true economic value where generation does not coincide with peak demand, which is why serious analysis relies not on LCOE but on time-weighted value.
