English Definition
A grouping of countries in Central and Eastern Europe classified, by their industrial base and geography, as emerging markets. From an investor's standpoint they form an intermediate category between developed Western Europe and higher-yielding frontier markets; at project level, the mismatch between local-currency revenue and hard-currency debt is the most sensitive point of the financing structure. Because local capital markets are of limited depth, long-term funding often remains dependent on cross-border sources and the currency-hedging cost that accompanies them.
