English Definition
A periodic assessment by a development finance institution of the implementation status of its portfolio or programme commitments in a given country — the progress of projects, the pace of disbursement, and whether agreed conditions have been met. Such a review is not merely a backward-looking audit: the performance of the existing country portfolio feeds directly into the institution's appetite for new project approvals and country allocation. Delayed disbursements and unmet conditions can quietly narrow future financing appetite for a country, so a project sponsor can be affected by the performance of the same institution's other projects there, even when its own project is faultless.
