Bir borçlanma aracının, ihraççının nominal değer üzerinden dönemsel olarak ödemeyi taahhüt ettiği faiz tutarını, ya da bu tutarı belirleyen kupon oranını ifade eder. Terim, tahvillerin fiziksel olarak basıldığı ve her ödeme döneminde kesilip tahsil edilen kâğıt kuponlar taşıdığı dönemden gelir; bugün kayden izlenen menkul kıymetlerde de kavram korunmuştur. Proje finansmanında kupon yapısının sabit mi değişken mi olduğu, projenin nakit akış profiliyle borç servisi arasındaki eşleşmeyi belirler; inşa döneminde nakit üretmeyen bir yapı için yüksek dönemsel kupon, rezerv hesabı ihtiyacını doğrudan büyütür.
English Definition
The periodic interest amount an issuer contractually commits to pay on the face value of a debt instrument, or the coupon rate that fixes that amount. The term survives from the era when bonds were physically printed with detachable paper coupons clipped and presented each payment period, and it persists for today's book-entry securities. In project finance whether the coupon is fixed or floating governs the match between the project's cash-flow profile and its debt service; for a structure that generates no cash during construction, a high periodic coupon directly enlarges the reserve account requirement.
