Tahvil üzerinden ödenen yıllık faiz oranı, nominal değerin yüzdesi olarak ifade edilir. Kupon oranı tahvil sahiplerinin aldığı dönemsel faiz ödemelerini belirler. Nominal değerden işlem gören bir tahvilin kupon oranı mevcut piyasa getirisine eşitken, kupon oranları geçerli piyasa oranlarından farklı olduğunda tahviller primli veya iskontolu işlem görür. Sıfır kuponlu tahviller dönemsel faiz ödemez ancak iskontolu ihraç edilir.

The annual interest rate paid on a bond, expressed as a percentage of the face value. The coupon rate determines the periodic interest payments bondholders receive. A bond trading at par has a coupon rate equal to the current market yield, while bonds trade at premiums or discounts when coupon rates differ from prevailing market rates. Zero-coupon bonds pay no periodic interest but are issued at a discount.
