En geniş anlamıyla, bir tarafın diğerine, gelecekte geri ödeneceği taahhüdü karşılığında fon, mal ya da hizmet sağlamasıdır; güvenin ölçülebilir ve fiyatlanabilir bir hâle getirilmiş biçimidir. Kredinin fiyatı, geri ödememe olasılığını ve paranın zaman değerini birlikte yansıtan faiz ve marjda somutlaşır. Proje finansmanını klasik kurumsal krediden ayıran nokta, geri ödemenin borçlunun genel bilançosuna değil, yalnızca finanse edilen projenin ürettiği nakit akışına dayandırılması ve sponsora rücunun sınırlı ya da hiç olmamasıdır; bu sınırlı rücu yapısı, kredi analizinin ağırlığını tüzel kişiden projenin sözleşmesel mimarisine kaydırır.
English Definition
In its broadest sense, the provision by one party to another of funds, goods, or services against a promise of future repayment — trust rendered measurable and priceable. The price of credit is embodied in interest and margin, which together reflect the probability of non-repayment and the time value of money. What sets project finance apart from classic corporate credit is that repayment rests not on the borrower's general balance sheet but solely on the cash flow the financed project generates, with recourse to the sponsor limited or absent; this limited-recourse structure shifts the weight of credit analysis from the legal entity to the project's contractual architecture.
