English Definition
The officer who analyzes a credit request, conducts the risk assessment, and prepares the credit memorandum for presentation to the decision authority; they may also bear responsibility for monitoring the credit after it is granted. A cornerstone of institutional risk management is the functional separation of the credit officer from the relationship or origination unit; this separation aims to prevent revenue pressure from distorting the credit decision. In project finance the credit officer's role is to translate the technical findings of independent advisers into the financial model and to bring the points where those two worlds fail to reconcile to the committee's attention.
