English Definition
The whole of the stages a credit request passes through from inception to closing — origination, appraisal, approval, documentation, drawdown, and monitoring are the sequential links of this process. Because each stage rests on the output of the previous one, a delay in any link propagates through the entire timeline. In project finance the process is markedly longer and non-linear than in other lending; because the technical, legal, and environmental due-diligence streams run in parallel, the financial model is revised many times, and numerous parties' approval cycles must be synchronized, the critical path is often set by the slowest adviser or the latest-convening committee.
