Bir projedeki birbirine bağımlı faaliyetleri modelleyerek, projenin en erken ne zaman tamamlanabileceğini belirleyen en uzun bağımlı faaliyet zincirini — kritik yolu — tespit eden proje planlama yöntemidir; kritik yol üzerindeki her gecikme, tüm projeyi doğrudan geciktirir. Proje finansmanında kritik yol salt bir mühendislik aracı değildir; ticari işletmeye alma (COD) tarihini, dolayısıyla gelir başlangıcını ve gecikme cezalarının (LD) tetiklenmesini belirleyen sözleşmesel bir eksene dönüşür. Uygulamadaki en sık ihtilaf, kritik yol dışındaki "float" süresinin kime ait olduğu ve bir gecikmenin gerçekten kritik yolu etkileyip etkilemediğidir; zira EPC yüklenicisi ile işveren, aynı gecikmeyi çoğu zaman farklı program versiyonlarıyla farklı yorumlar.
English Definition
A project-planning method that models the interdependent activities of a project to identify the longest chain of dependent tasks — the critical path — which determines the earliest the project can be completed; any delay on the critical path delays the whole project directly. In project financing the critical path is not merely an engineering tool: it becomes a contractual axis that determines the commercial operation date, and hence the start of revenue and the triggering of liquidated damages for delay. The most frequent dispute in practice is who owns the "float" outside the critical path and whether a given delay genuinely affects the critical path, because the EPC contractor and the owner often read the same delay differently through different versions of the schedule.
