English Definition
The time or date boundary that fixes which period, day or settlement cycle a given transaction belongs to, with anything arriving after it pushed into the next period. In accounting, cut-off underlies recognizing revenue and expense in the correct period; in payment systems, it governs whether a transfer values same-day or next-day. In project finance, periodizing interest accruals, drawdown requests and reserve-account movements against the cut-off date is a detail that determines the accuracy of the debt-service calculation and reconciliation, and one that auditors examine closely.
