English Definition
An endorsement added to an insurance policy giving the insured or beneficiary the right to claim directly from the reinsurer if the primary insurer becomes insolvent or fails to pay, so that recovery flows straight from the reinsurer rather than queuing among a failed insurer's creditors. In project finance, lenders demand this endorsement to detach the value of their required insurances from the insurer's credit risk; the cut-through is a structural safeguard that carries the reinsurer's strength directly to the lender, especially in jurisdictions with a weakly rated insurer or a local-insurance requirement.
