English Definition
A reference to the original adoption date of the Vienna Convention on Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage, which was opened for signature on 21 May 1963 at the diplomatic conference convened in Vienna. This date marks the formal establishment of the first comprehensive international framework for nuclear damage liability under IAEA auspices. The Convention has since been amended by protocols, most notably the 1997 Protocol that modernised its provisions and increased liability limits.
