English Definition
The act of reducing an account by posting to its debit side, describing the process of recording transactions such as payments, charge collections, or loan repayments. In project finance who holds the authority to debit is the most decisive element of the project's cash-control architecture; residing with the project company in normal operation, that authority passes to the lender or security agent on an event of default. How this shift is triggered in the contract — a hard default or merely a warning threshold — is one of the most sensitive negotiation lines between sponsor and lender.
