English Definition
A warehouse receipt issued in two identical copies for the same stored commodity, where in practice one copy is assigned to the financing party as collateral and the other remains with the owner. In commodity-based project and trade finance, the real hazard is that two receipts over the same stock are pledged to two separate lenders, a double-pledge fraud that has recurred in metals and grain financing. Lenders therefore refuse to accept the receipt as security without independent collateral inspection and a sole-and-exclusive attestation from the warehouse operator.
