English Definition
The act of issuing notes in tranches under an issuance programme or note-purchase commitment, so that the borrower draws on the facility as funding needs arise rather than in a single bulk placement. Because each drawdown brings the cash closer to the moment of need, it reduces carrying cost and the negative carry on idle proceeds, which is why it is favoured in project financings that must match a construction spend profile to a funding schedule. Each drawing is typically conditioned on agent approval, the absence of any adverse event, and satisfaction of the conditions set in the programme documentation.
