English Definition
The difference between the value of a country's merchandise exports and imports over a specified period, also known as the trade balance. A surplus indicates exports exceed imports, while a deficit signifies the reverse. The foreign trade balance is a major component of the current account and is closely monitored as an indicator of a country's international competitiveness and economic health.
