English Definition
The FTSE Index refers to a family of stock market indices maintained by FTSE Russell, a subsidiary of the London Stock Exchange Group. The most prominent is the FTSE 100, which tracks the 100 largest companies listed on the London Stock Exchange by market capitalisation. FTSE indices are widely used as benchmarks for portfolio performance, the basis for index-tracking funds and ETFs, and as barometers of broader economic conditions in the United Kingdom and globally.
