English Definition
A partner in a limited partnership who has unlimited personal liability for the partnership's debts and obligations and is responsible for the active management and day-to-day operations of the business. The general partner has the authority to bind the partnership in contracts and transactions with third parties. In private equity and infrastructure fund structures, the general partner typically manages the fund, makes investment decisions, and receives a management fee and carried interest as compensation.
