English Definition
A debt security that is issued and traded simultaneously in multiple international capital markets, typically in both the Eurobond market and one or more domestic bond markets, enabling the issuer to access the broadest possible investor base. Global bonds are structured to comply with the registration and settlement requirements of each target market and are commonly issued by sovereign governments, supranational institutions, and large multinational corporations. The World Bank's landmark 1989 issuance is widely credited with establishing the global bond format.
