English Definition
A standing instruction to a broker or exchange to buy or sell a security at a specified price that remains in effect indefinitely until it is either executed in full or explicitly cancelled by the investor. GTC orders eliminate the need for daily order re-entry and are commonly used to set target entry or exit prices for positions. Most exchanges and brokers impose a maximum duration, typically 30 to 90 days, after which GTC orders are automatically cancelled to prevent stale orders from executing at prices that no longer reflect the investor's current intentions.
