English Definition
The volume and movement of freight and merchandise transported through a particular infrastructure asset, corridor, or transportation network, measured in units such as tonnes, tonne-kilometres, or container equivalent units. Goods traffic data is fundamental to the economic and financial analysis of transport infrastructure projects including railways, highways, ports, and airports. In project finance, goods traffic forecasts underpin revenue projections and debt service capacity calculations, and are typically prepared by independent traffic consultants as part of the bankability assessment process.
