English Definition
The portion of the economy comprising all government entities at central, regional, and local levels, including ministries, departments, agencies, public corporations, and social security funds, that are engaged in the provision of public services and the implementation of government policy. In national income accounting, the government sector is one of the four institutional sectors alongside households, non-financial corporations, and financial corporations. The size and efficiency of the government sector directly affects fiscal sustainability, economic competitiveness, and the investment climate for private sector participants.
