English Definition
The act of pledging or assigning assets, rights, or guarantees in favour of a creditor to secure the repayment of a financial obligation. Granting security creates a priority claim for the secured creditor over the pledged collateral in the event of the debtor's insolvency. The process typically involves formal documentation, valuation of collateral, and in many jurisdictions, registration with a public registry to perfect the security interest against third parties.
