English Definition
A national accounts aggregate that measures the total value of new fixed assets acquired, plus changes in inventories, by resident producers during an accounting period before deducting consumption of fixed capital. Gross capital formation encompasses investments in buildings, machinery, equipment, and intellectual property products. It is a key indicator of the productive capacity being added to an economy and constitutes a major component of gross domestic product from the expenditure side.
