English Definition
The total expenditure on fixed assets and inventory accumulation by all resident entities within a country's borders during a given period, before deducting depreciation of existing capital stock. Gross domestic investment includes spending by the private sector, public sector, and households on construction, machinery, equipment, and intellectual property. It is a critical determinant of future productive capacity, economic growth, and employment generation.
