English Definition
Physical currency in the form of coins and banknotes, as opposed to cheques, promissory notes, or electronic transfers. In finance, hard cash connotes immediate liquidity and the absence of counterparty risk associated with other payment instruments. The term is also used colloquially to emphasise the tangible, readily available nature of funds in a transaction.
