The expense incurred in implementing a hedging strategy, including option premiums, forward point differentials, margin requirements, and transaction fees. Hedging costs reduce the net benefit of risk protection and must be weighed against potential losses from unhedged exposure. Under IFRS 9 and hedge accounting rules, hedging costs may be deferred and amortised over the life of the hedging relationship.
